The artist has handed over the entirety of his £25,000 honor cash to the MVT, which works to save the United Kingdom's small live music spots.

The star was awarded the award on mid-October as his third album People Watching was declared the outstanding release of the last 12 months.

Fender has decided to donate the funds to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the vital role local spots played in his early career.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing my current career if it hadn't been for all the gigs I played around the North East, and further afield, when I was beginning," remarked the artist. "These venues are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these locations have shut down – approximately one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

Recently, top acts such as the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a modest fee to their admission fees, which benefits local stages.

Sam Fender also participated, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to help thirty-eight local spots across Britain.

The money helped spaces that were dealing with potential shutdown due to challenges caused by water damage, blazes and personal losses, as well as regulatory hurdles, court cases and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces obtained financial assistance in improving amenities and technical equipment that directly benefitted artists and audiences.

"The concept that money from performances in major spaces supports the smaller venues, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has said.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective gave their prize money to the community center that nurtured their group, as well as other local music groups.

And winners that year the group donated their prize to a MS organization after a friend was diagnosed the disease.

"Winning was quite enough," stated singer the singer. "The cash was the cherry on top but we didn't need the extra, because we had the main prize. So our winning impacted the lives of others."

Last week, the trust shared it had saved several local spots in south-east England, by placing them under public stewardship.
